Whare Rama

Whare Rama is a dedicated residential care program designed to support Māori children and young people, providing them with a safe, nurturing environment that honours and upholds their cultural identity. Our program is built on the foundational pillars of Manaaki, Mana, and Hapū, which guide our approach to care and community.

Manaaki (Care and Support): At Whare Rama, Manaaki is at the core of everything we do. We offer compassionate care that nurtures the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of the children and young people in our care. Our support is holistic, ensuring that each individual feels valued, respected, and understood as they navigate their personal journey.

Mana (Respect and Empowerment): We believe in the inherent dignity and worth of every child. Through the concept of Mana, we empower Māori children and young people to recognise their strengths, build confidence, and take pride in their cultural identity. We provide opportunities for leadership, personal growth, and self-determination, helping them to develop a strong sense of self and purpose.

Hapū (Family and Community): Whare Rama is deeply committed to maintaining and strengthening the connections between children, their whānau (family), and their Hapū (sub-tribe). We recognise the importance of these relationships in the lives of Māori children and strive to create an environment that supports and fosters these bonds. Whenever possible, we work to reunite children with their whānau and provide the necessary support to strengthen these connections.

Whare Rama is more than just a place of care—it is a community that embraces and uplifts Māori children and young people, providing them with the guidance, support, and cultural connection they need to thrive. Our commitment to Manaaki, Mana, and Hapū ensures that each child feels a strong sense of belonging and is empowered to build a positive, resilient future.
