The Lighthouse Foster Framework

Our Lighthouse FOSTER framework informs our thinking and governs all decision-making as we believe that every child deserves the best chance at a healthy, happy life. That's why we do everything possible to create an environment for families that are safe, stable, and loving. We know that each child has unique gifts and strengths—and so does each family.

Family & Child Centred: Family and child-centered care focuses on the needs of the family, as well as the individual child.  It's about listening to what the young person wants to do with their life and then working with them, their family and others in the community to support them with this.

Children and young people should have a say in the decisions made about their lives, so that they can get the support they need to achieve what they want from their lives.

Outcomes Oriented: We value results and are committed to meeting our goals and objectives, even if they're tough ones.  This will ensure children and families find success  and live fulfilled lives.

Strengths Based: We help children and families find their strengths and build on them so they can reach their fullest potential.   We also help everyone discover their unique talents and use those talents to build confidence.

Trauma & Attachment Informed: Trauma and attachment informed is about helping people heal from past trauma and develop relationships with others that are healthy and safe.  We focus on the development of secure attachments, which can be defined as an emotional bond between a child and his or her primary caregiver. This bond helps children feel safe and secure in the world, providing them with the ability to grow and thrive.

Emotionally Intelligent Focused:  We want to support children and families by focusing on the emotional aspects of their experience. We want our programs and services to be emotionally intelligent. That means we're committed to fostering emotional intelligence in ourselves, and in the young people we work with.

Relationship & Connection Based: We believe that relationships are the cornerstone of our work. That's why we focus on building connections and relationships with families, children, and communities. We believe that when you have a relationship with someone, you're able to better understand their needs and work together to make things better for them.  We also believe that when you have essential connections you'll live more of a fulfilled life.
